Kara’s Collection: Fretful Wednesday

Kara’s Collection: Fretful Wednesday

Last week one of my favorite people put on Facebook, “I chose a salad today over a cookie, Philippians 4:13.” I laughed hard at that. You see that verse is: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

But it is true—in big and small things, Christ gives us the strength to do what we cannot do in our own strength.

The Mean Man

The Mean Man

A little while back, we posted a short article of Kara’s about being weary of unkindness. It struck a lot of our hearts, and I’ve been pondering her words ever since.

Then the other day after church, I made a short trip to Trader Joe’s with my babies, our weekly trip to stock up on Trader Joe’s necessities, and Von loves pushing the “kid kaht”. He steers very carefully and tries very hard to watch out for other people and not get in anyone’s way. He is a defensive little kaht driver. On this day, I made the right turn onto the main road that TJ’s is on. A few moments later, a car behind me in my lane that was clearly speeding passed me barely in time to make the turn into TJ’s. The parking lot was crowded and I ended up parking next to that car.

This day has been a long time in the making. It was such a special event. So many encouraging words and so much support. In the Presbyterian church, ordination is a serious event. Jason had to complete his Masters of Divinity, pass a number of extensive tests in our presbytery, and learn to pilot a double engine jet. Okay maybe not, but it was a long, long road getting here. In the pictures, you will see a worship service with the purpose of ordaining Jason. Men spoke, prayed, prayed over Jason, asked Jason questions, and in the end, Jason gave his first benediction. It was such a joyous day. Friends and family filled the room for the event. It was truly such a great evening.

Tippetts Family Truck House Trip of 2015

I read Psalm 100 2 weeks ago; I can’t believe more than 100 days have gone by. As these days tick by, I want to freeze them somehow but that is not one of my superpowers. Days seem to get easier, but there is always this ache. I ache as I look at my kids, as I see people in good marriages enjoying life, as I think of losing Kara. I know this ache will be with me the rest of my days, but in these days I have also enjoyed life.

For a few days, I have attempted to sneak away to find something new to wear to Jason’s ordination Sunday evening. Each day I putter about and realize I don’t have the strength. Yesterday, my dear Tuesday friend (my grace-dress friend that comes to love on Story and me) came just as I was all weak and noodley from my bath. As a side bit of information you will never need to know, when one suddenly finds oneself bald after a shower, your head is very sensitive and cold. For a brief moment after a bath, I look absolutely normal with my head wrapped in a towel like it has been my entire adult life.
