Kara’s Collection: Fretful Wednesday

Last week one of my favorite people put on Facebook, “I chose a salad today over a cookie, Philippians 4:13.” I laughed hard at that. You see that verse is: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

But it is true—in big and small things, Christ gives us the strength to do what we cannot do in our own strength.

This day has been a long time in the making. It was such a special event. So many encouraging words and so much support. In the Presbyterian church, ordination is a serious event. Jason had to complete his Masters of Divinity, pass a number of extensive tests in our presbytery, and learn to pilot a double engine jet. Okay maybe not, but it was a long, long road getting here. In the pictures, you will see a worship service with the purpose of ordaining Jason. Men spoke, prayed, prayed over Jason, asked Jason questions, and in the end, Jason gave his first benediction. It was such a joyous day. Friends and family filled the room for the event. It was truly such a great evening.

For a few days, I have attempted to sneak away to find something new to wear to Jason’s ordination Sunday evening. Each day I putter about and realize I don’t have the strength. Yesterday, my dear Tuesday friend (my grace-dress friend that comes to love on Story and me) came just as I was all weak and noodley from my bath. As a side bit of information you will never need to know, when one suddenly finds oneself bald after a shower, your head is very sensitive and cold. For a brief moment after a bath, I look absolutely normal with my head wrapped in a towel like it has been my entire adult life.

We had a big day full of celebration yesterday that left us all full and a bit ragged. Jason only woke one for VBS this morning. Our oldest had responsibility, so she needed to show up, even if she was a bit party worn.

I had a sweet morning talking through retreat planning and speaking engagements, and the kids slowly made their way down the stairs into the bright day. One even slept all the way to 11. It was unbelievable, especially since my road is currently being torn up by giant earth movers. In the loud, they slept on in response to the amazing night with friends we enjoyed last night.

That’s my day. July 14 is the day I came to be a part of this world. This past week I have thought much on this simple day and found myself in tears. I’m not exactly sure where the tears come from, but I will simply try let my fingers explain it to me here, tonight after I have kissed the heads of my children, read the books, said the prayers; I simply want to come here to write.
