We all have friends who hang up Christmas lights before Christmas. At least two of our local radio stations started playing Christmas music on November 1. And at the grocery store the day after Halloween, where I hoped to find clearance candy corn was a big, fat Christmas display! I couldn’t believe it! Although I don’t know why—it seems like Christmas is pushed back further and further every year. And on one hand, that’s okay: it means I can send my sister in Germany Christmassy chocolate chips in time for her holiday baking. But in general, it does feel like The Retail Powers That Be are shoving the holidays in our faces way too soon.

I’m awake, unable to sleep and anticipation of our first worship service. We are having our first practice service this Sunday. It is a true service, but we are working out the kinks this first trial run. It’s exciting, it’s overwhelming, and it’s amazing.
#7: Chapters 8 & 9 with Mickey (MFP)
This week in the studio, Jill and I talked to none other than the wise, beloved, nurturing, queen of community, Mickey! She FaceTimed in from her vacation to talk to us about what it looks like to show up, to build community, to love others, and to trust God in all of that. Jill and I cried the entire time—it was a reminder of the hours we spent sitting at her feet being mentored and cared for by her. Many of you have expressed a desire to know more about her and hear from her. We hope this encourages and blesses you.
Kara’s Collection: It’s the final countdown!

We had a sweet sendoff yesterday from Village Seven. My heart filled with such gratitude for the church that had the vision to bring us out here and plant this church. When the session learned of my cancer, they graciously allowed us to push back our start date. We were originally supposed to begin in October, but they were open to us beginning in March. The later start was good providence. The added time gave us time to be strengthened and grow and be stretched as a community.
Kara Tippetts Foundation
Some of you may have already heard the news: Kara’s brother, Dennis, has poured his heart and soul into creating a foundation in Kara’s honor to help others live life to its fullest as they journey Stage IV cancer. As Dennis says, Kara had so many opportunities to go on vacations and have unique opportunities to build special memories with her family. And while Kara wasn’t burdened by a financial strain, many, many cancer patients are. Let’s join together and see what we can do to raise money to help and bless others traveling this difficult road. Let’s be a reminder of grace in their hard. And please—share the word.
