This past Thursday we loaded up our gang and headed to the World Arena to the Worship Roadshow. We had learned that Jason’s college roommate was opening for the concert. Friends of ours had reserved a box. We enjoyed food, good music, and great fellowship. The kids were safe to play, enjoy, and be introduced to all kinds of music.

#6: Chapters 6 & 7 with Ali (MFP)

This week for the Mundane Faithfulness Podcast, Jill and I sit down with Ali to discuss Chapters 6 & 7 of Jill and Kara’s book, Just Show Up. Friends, there were lots of tears (and laughter!) in the studio and so much wisdom shared (by Ali and Jill!) about insecurities when just showing up for others. I had Von and Ann with me, as usual, and I was doing that familiar dance of trying to drink a cup of coffee and carry on adult conversation while a 1- and a 2-year old hung off me, clinging to me and asking for more strawberries and basically demanding my undivided attention.

At some point, I abruptly realized that the babies weren’t clamoring for me anymore—I looked up to see them eating strawberries with Heather’s assistance. She was oohing and aahing over them, making sure their needs were cared for. She was engaging them, asking questions, and striving to make them feel safe talking to her.

After a beautifully normal night of bath time, dinner with new friends, and bedtime, I zonked out really quickly. But two hours later I’m awake struggling with the statistics given to me from the radiologist. I’m not a numbers girl, I’m a right brained, emotional, relational, in-the-moment thinker. I don’t stew, over-analyze, consume, obsess, or worry all that often. This is new, ugly territory for me.
