Kara’s Collection: Suffering and Sovereignty

Some of the most difficult conversations I have had in the midst of my cancer have been with believers that do not see God in a hard plan. So many believe hard comes, and God makes it better, but they believe God had nothing to do with my hard story. It is easy to forget our salvation was made on a tree. For me, the story that comes to mind over and over again is the story of Joseph.

Philippians 1:21

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

For years, I have loved this verse. You can imagine finding myself with cancer has shed new light on this verse for me this year. Truthfully, I have struggled and wrestled much with this verse this year. It is such a simple verse; Jesus has often, often brought it to mind. And every time The Lord brought this verse to me, my internal voice would answer the sweet Spirit, We don’t believe this. I have written emails to friends, struggled, and meditated on the fact that we do not believe the gain of leaving here to be with Christ. Please stick with me until the end of this post, because last night transformed how my heart now thinks of this verse.

I know this guy who loves Jesus in such a way he helps us all to calm down a bit. This particular gentleman can calmly lead a group with grace and conviction. I love listening to the teachings of this man as I get to see how he lives it behind closed doors. I have known far too many men that live duplicitous lives.
