Two more treatments! Two more! Two then one and I’m done. I certainly have more procedures in the future, but this morning I realized this Friday is my LAST morning fighting cancer. This is that last leg of this journey. This is the end of this weary year of beating, destroying, minimizing the radical cells that took residence in my body. Chemo, bilateral mastectomy, radiation.... The end. Period. The remaining procedures are preventative. This is the end of getting the cancer gone. Amen!
Jill Lynn Buteyn is the kind of gal you fall head over heels for the minute you meet her. And it’s not just her stunning green eyes. Or her sparkly smile. It’s her warmth and compassion, how she makes you feel happy during a simple few minutes of conversation. Her heart is huge, and she loves big.

Monday is the beginning of the end. It is the last week of school and the last week of treatment. We are dragging, limping, struggling over the finish line. When the mom, the go-to cheerleader, organizer, keep-it-in-order person is down for the count, everyone struggles. We have had victories, but I must say we have barely made it. This year my kids earned grades that will never be quantified on a report card. Ella will spend her last week in elementary this week. My heart cannot take that in. Mickey said it well when she said how the little children in our home can escape to their imaginations. Together we are limping across the finish line of this school year, and I couldn’t be more proud.
As you may recall, Kara’s brother, Dennis, started a foundation in her memory to reach out to people in their last days of terminal cancer. The description reads, We hope to help people on a similar journey to be able to live every remaining moment to the fullest, just as Kara was able to. Kara had wonderful support from her community. She was gifted with so many opportunities to go on vacation with her family and to visit friends and loved ones, as well as with help to pay her medical bills so she didn't leave any debt to her family. As a foundation we want to help beneficiaries with their financial needs, including helping them to be able to create beautiful memories. We desire to come alongside families on this journey through end-stage cancer in order to fulfill the command of Jesus to care for the sick.
Isn’t that a beautiful mission? I love that the heart behind this is to enable people to spend time with their families and friends, building community with every precious breath. And I personally love that Dennis has a passion for loving others, just like his baby sister. He loves big, and he is giving us the opportunity to love big, too.
