New Book Giveaway Coming Next Week

Friends, next week we will kick off another giveaway for Nancy Guthrie's book, What Grieving People Wish You Knew About What Really Helps (And What Really Hurts). I can't sing this book's praises highly enough. What Jill and Kara's book Just Show Up is for teaching us how to walk with suffering people, this book is for teaching us how to walk with grieving people. Here is a short video of Nancy talking about how to respond to a grieving friend and what to say. It's just the tip of the iceberg--the book will comfort you, blow you away, and answer the questions you've always had.

We are home from a lovely adventure in Westcliff. I swallowed the last pills and have a week off from the stomaching of pills...well, chemo pills. We are washing clothes, making lists, and getting the big girls ready to run away to Eagle Lake Camp. Each week we have sought and found life, big life in the little and big moments together.

I think this happens with writers and with people in general, but maybe it looks different for people depending on how they express themselves. For my husband, it’s with music. I remember my mother working in her garden, pulling weeds and nurturing roses and coaxing flowers to grow in sandy earth—this was her processing. She would come inside refreshed, resolved, rejuvenated. The scary thing for me is when God asks me to share it on this blog for all the world to read. Gulp…

I’m limping along trying to figure out the right time to take my new chemo and the right combination of drugs to help the pain of my cancer that is pressing in on nerves in my back and on my hip, as well as managing the side effects of my chemo. It’s a dance, a freaking ugly dance. One day I have the steps right, the next day I’m dancing with a puke bucket in my purse—lovely. This week has been uniquely tough because I have realized this is my dance forever. Well, until this drug stops working and another harder drug will replace this one.
