Kara’s Collection: Prayer Matters

Kara’s Collection: Prayer Matters

This is from a blog post originally posted August 7, 2012.

Last week, a dear woman wrote me and asked me the hardest times of day I face. I immediately knew the answer without having to think: 6:30am and 10pm.

Every morning between 6-6:30am, I wake up, I remember my story, I run to the bathroom to be sick, and then I race down to scripture to find my way back to peace. Then, if everyone is still sleeping, I head out for a long hike, filled with tears, prayers, horrible loud singing. Typically, when I return home, peace has been restored and the grace has been found to begin my day

Tears

Tears

They finally came, four weeks to the day that Kara went Home. After checking my phone when it dinged while I was getting ready, hoping it was her asking me to come sit. Then the letdown remembering it wasn’t her. It couldn’t be her.

This was an interesting article. I have not come to the point where I’m questioning, why me? But I’m sure that moment will come. This was a solid answer to that question.

This song is a favorite! Thank you Sharon, I can’t get enough! Truly a new anthem...

Kindred Spirits: Blythe's Story

Kindred Spirits: Blythe's Story

We are starting a new series here at Mundane Faithfulness—Kindred Spirits—in which friends of Kara’s tell their stories. I love the term kindred spirits, which was introduced to me in the Anne of Green Gables books as a child. Because of Kara’s friendship with Autumn, which they always likened to Anne and Diane, I now always think of them when I hear the term. But I especially think of Kara because, as one speaker put it at her memorial service, so many of us considered her our best friend. She made each of her friends feel valued and loved and known. And we each have our own story of how our friendship came to be and the impact it has had on us; in fact, those of us who never met Kara in person have your own story, too. So let’s enjoy the stories together…

Kara’s Collection: Why Not?!

Kara’s Collection: Why Not?!

So, when I realized I only had a month left with this hair of mine, I decided it was time for some fun! First I decided to cut it off and donate it, and Jason and I also decided it would be less shocking for the kids when I actually do lose it. My oncologist made a good point. He said it would be better on our plumbing. Very practical. I like that in a doctor.
